Fernando Torres stormed up the Actim Index, the official player rating system of the Barclays Premier League, after enjoying a very merry Christmas. Torres was one of only four players to top 100 points over the Xmas and New Year fixtures, earning 104 points in four games, only Dimitar Berbatov (148), Cristiano Ronaldo (128) and Salomon Kalou (114) returning more. Torres went into the festive period in 77th place overall but a steady run in Rafael Benitez's starting line-up paid dividends for the former Atletico Madrid man as he climbed to 27th overall, and is now averaging 15 points per appearance.
His best performance came in the 4-1 defeat of Portsmouth at Anfield which gave him 49 points, his highest individual match score of the campaign. Steven Gerrard remains the top-ranked Liverpool player in 13th position and with 314 points, 47 more than Torres.
